"RRU helped me get a real-world learning experience. The multicultural and amazingly experienced cohort, brilliant faculty, research trips all along with fun not only helped me understand tourism from a global perspective but also gave me an opportunity to contribute to the academic world through my assignments and my final thesis. The experience at RRU was invaluable and I feel overwhelmingly lucky to have been a part of this academic journey."

"At RRU, I made connections between the academic side of the program and my hands-on experiences. I got to see the importance of the host community’s involvement and the roles of sustainability and resources as they pertain to tourism. Plus, I got to enjoy the hospitality of a new community and its people. It’s an experience I’ll never forget." Read more about Mihir here.

"I love to travel, which is why I chose to pursue a degree in hospitality. I also wanted to study in Canada to experience the diversity of education and culture in the West. Royal Roads University came highly recommended because of its outstanding reputation in the hospitality industry. And, as I found out, for good reason. Small classes create an effective learning environment and enable instructors to provide one-on-one support." Read more about Catherine here.

"At RRU, I learned about the importance of the environment and how it can be related to businesses, as the environmental problems have become very popular these days. I had the opportunity to go on a trip with my classmates to have fun and learn about the environment, that was maybe the best experience I had during this semester."

"In Iran, women are not regarded as separate entities from their husband or fathers. At my age, women are either married or getting their master’s degrees. I didn’t fit into either of those categories so living there was challenging for me." Discover more about Negar's journey to Canada.

"Year 1 is one of the most helpful academic years that international students with different backgrounds will be facing at Royal Roads University. The way universities work in other countries is different to the way universities work in Canada. So it is extremely important that students absorb as much information as possible in Year 1 in order to maximize grades in the upcoming years, to improve the understandings on Canadian academics and culture, to engage with the community, and to better manage their time." "The best part of my time at here was to learn how to work in teams. For most of the assignments, we had to work in our team that was set up at the beginning of the term. Each of us developed an outlining understanding of the advantages and efficiency of teamwork. The class felt like family and I will never forget the close relationships and the positive atmosphere we had on campus."

"One of the biggest competitive advantages of RRU, I believe, is its diversity. Not only the ethnic diversity but also professional diversity. My cohort of 30 odd students, allowed me to look at an issue with 30 different perspectives, which is fantastic knowledge wise. RRU’s professors are also very unique."

"The beautiful campus has given me a supportive environment to embrace my urge for answers. On top of that, my classmates from over 12 countries contributed with their unique experiences and inspiring ideas to the classroom every day, pushed me to be a better thinker."

"Most people would say reaching graduation is the symbol of success. But for me, it is the road that we take each day, with every stepbacks, every failure, every energy we give to push ourselves up to do it again makes the definition of my success more meaningful. It is not the end, but it is my journey as a student in Royal Roads University that makes the most unforgettable memory of my lifetime."

"I love RRU. I fitted in the DSocSci Programme quite well with my credentials. I was not only able to apply my prior experience in my studies but also it was as if the programme was built on my experience to produce a better 'me' professionally, scholarly and intellectually."

"Obviously, the first year is critical for international students! It was overwhelming to adapt to a new environment because of the culture shock, climate change, homesickness and new intense education system. Simple tasks like going to a grocery store where the products are unfamiliar can be challenging too."

"From travelling locally to understand cultures, to flying internationally for research – the year had many fun-filled occurrences that kept us all on our toes. Combining real life with education is such an integral part of a well-rounded education – something that Royal Roads has mastered. What an absolute privilege to work and learn alongside the industry’s best."

[I love being a student at RRU because I can always enjoy the view of the spectacular Hatley Castle and the wildlife. Also, I have friends from all over the world and I treasure every moment with them. Besides, I cherish every volunteering opportunity at RR; I have learned so much from it.]

"It is not an easy ride, yet if you commit, try your best and remain patient, you can make this the time of your life and an invaluable experience. My advice especially for incoming international students’ is don’t overload yourself."

"I chose to attend Royal Roads University because, at the time, it seemed to be the only university seriously engaging in meaningful environmental education through a cohort model, and had a reputation of being accepting of creative, zany, and wild ideas."

"The cohort model, particularly for an MBA degree, emulated the real world of teams functioning across expertise, time, culture, and geography. My RRU education continues to help me in the workplace by grounding me in fundamental theories and giving me the ability to keep learning about the quantitative and qualitative aspects of good, safe, and environmentally sound business practices."
