“I feel a sense of belonging here at Western Sydney University. We have a diverse student body where everyone is welcome and given opportunities to grow personally and professionally. Western is very supportive of its students in both academic performance and any general life. I receive the support I need whenever I reach out to the University.

The MBA course has been a great journey for me, I met a lot of friends and I built a very valuable network. I met a lot of people that have years of experience in the industry and they shared their stories. The important value of the Australian degree to me is that it’s well recognised all over the world, and with this degree I feel like I can work all over the world like a global citizen. I can interact and learn more about the innovation that Australian’s are doing, and also use it to help my country in the future.

I ended getting my job through one of the work-integrated learning programs that Western introduced right after my first semester. It was this program that basically kick-started my career as I was offered to work as an intern that converted into a part-time role, and the day I submitted my thesis in my final semester I was offered to work as a Programs Coordinator and Quality Assurance Engineer at one of the leading Australian Edtech startups in Experiential Learning.

The Study Smart service at the Library helped me to gain confidence in my academic performance by offering to discuss and review assignments with me. Through the University’s CareerHub I found opportunities to gain local work experience. I came to Western to get a degree but what I have gained is a lot more than that. It is truly a community where everyone has the equal chance to realise their potential.”

I chose Western Sydney University because of the partnerships it has with different organisations therefore I saw an opportunity for me to network and do internships in those different organisations, one of the organisations is Price Waterhouse Coopers. I got the opportunity to get an offer to work as a casual for PWC which is quite exciting. Because of the support that we have been given and the encouragement for us to engage and network, I’ve been able to get all this opportunity and realise that there is more I can do if I just work hard.

A double degree is equal parts entertaining and challenging. The ability to learn both relevant technology along with quintessential accounting skills, broadens the horizons of the mind. I get to learn app building and programming while also learning the accounting systems and financial management. I have always been fascinated with creating technology based solutions for financial problems and this degree gives me the tools to unlock my dreams. The degree is in its essence, the best of both worlds, of IT and Business.

There are two memories relating to my semester abroad that are really important: my Southeast Asia trip and my big trip to Australia with my friends from Germany. In all, we took in Bali, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand because to go there from Australia was relatively cheap. Then afterwards, I came back and I travelled around Australia with two friends from Germany for five weeks. Studying abroad made those experiences possible. I think that my first desire was to get outside of my comfort zone and have the experience of living by myself in a different country, with a different culture, with different people, be somewhere I don’t know anyone else and live an international student life – which is very, very challenging. This was my first thought, but after the first year, after settling, everything changed... Continue reading Ligia's journey on whatALUMNIsay

"I feel that I have made the best choice - especially because of the technology-infused learning. I love the way the course is taught using a multimedia approach, and the fact that it has access to a whole online library, which we can use to read for tutorials and research assignments."
